ICE has been patrolling our Rochester communities and abducting our neighbors. Our politicians continue to do nothing to protect us, and have even helped ICE by voting for increased funding to them. Enough is enough, it's time to take action into our own hands and demand ICE OUT of Rochester. Here are some steps you can take.
Prepare Your Community
COMMUNITY IS ANTIFASCIST
When a community comes together in numbers during an ICE raid, it can deter the ICE agents from carrying on with their goal. This can be accomplished with a close knit community and rapid communication.

-
Get to know your neighbors and community members - host a potluck.
-
Go out to community organized events, attend rallies and protests, get involved.
-
Create a secure way to communicate with those in your community quickly and effectively. A Signal group chat is a good tool for this.
-
Create a plan with your community on what to do when ICE shows up in your neighborhood. Connect to Rapid Response networks and organizations doing the work.
See ICE? Report Them
USE THE SALUTE FORMAT
If you see ICE, report them and their whereabouts using the SALUTE format:

-
Size (number of officers/vehicles)
-
Activity (what is happening)
-
Location (specific, public location)
-
Uniform (markings, agency identifiers)
-
Time (when observed)
-
Equipment (vehicles, visible gear)
You can report them using the https://iceout.org/ web application or your local rapid response network. Reach out to your community as well and keep them informed.

After warning your community, be sure to document what ICE is doing. Observe from a distance and film them. Be sure to upload the video evidence to a secure location ASAP without any edits. If you are observing ICE abducting someone, try to ask the victim for any personal information like name, birthday, and family phone numbers.

For more specific acts of resistance, refer to the official 50501 website which has a very well defined guide called Resisting Occupation.
Hold Our Politicians Accountable
CONTACT YOUR REPS
While the best course of action is to dismantle the system as it is, we can also take steps to make changes from within the system until we get to that point. We do not endorse any politicians but we do believe in holding them accountable.
Contact our Congress people and demand they stop funding ICE. Demand that we do not want ICE in Rochester, and that we want ICE to be abolished. Here are our representatives of Rochester:

Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand
-
(202) 224-4451
Senator Charles E. Schumer
-
(202) 224-6542
Representative Joseph D. Morelle
-
(585) 232-4850
The ACLU also provides a great tool for contacting your congress people by email which can be found here: https://action.aclu.org/send-message/stop-ices-attack-our-communities

Unfortunately, Gillibrand and Schumer still have their seats until 2031 and 2029 respectively. But, we are in an election year for Joe Morelle's NY-25 seat. If a more progressive candidate comes alone, we urge the Rochester community to primary Joe Morelle in June.
